Can I use SSD as virtual memory?
RAM is cheaper and faster then a solid-state drive, and SSDs should NEVER be used for virtual memory!!! They have a limited number of writes, and using them for virtual memory often will severely reduce the lifespan of the drive.
The key reason why you can not use an SSD as RAM is because it is connected to the computer as if it were a disk drive, rather than RAM.
Therefore, no matter how large the capacity of RAM is, it's still necessary for us to enable the virtual memory. Another thing about virtual memory is that Windows only uses paging files when it's necessary. In other words, Windows does not use paging files all the time.
It's under the "Virtual memory" header. This opens the Virtual Memory dialog, which is where you can configure how much of your hard drive will be used as RAM. Un-check "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives." Now you can edit the options on this screen. Click your SSD drive.
RAM vs SSD Speed
Both RAM and SSD can improve the performance of your computer. But actually, RAM is orders of magnitude faster than an SSD. In theory, the transfer speed of an SSD can be up to about 6Gbps (equivalent to 750 MB/s) which is from the SATA interface.
Virtual memory can be allocated to any internally connected HDD or SSD. It does not have to be on the C: drive. Generally, you want it to be on the fastest attached drive, because if it DOES need to be used, having it on a slower drive, makes access.....
You can't use SSD as RAM. The only option is to set lots of virtual memory.
The bigger the virtual memory space, the bigger the adress table becomes in which is written, which virtual adress belongs to which physical adress. A big table can theoreticaly result in slower translation of the adresses and therefore in slower reading and writing speeds.
Manual Method. To calculate the "general rule" recommended size of virtual memory in Windows 10 per the 8 GB your system has, here's the equation 1024 x 8 x 1.5 = 12288 MB.
Click Custom and enter a size range. For example with 16GB, you may want to enter Initial Size of 8000 MB and Maximum size of 12000 MB. Remember this is in MB, so you need to increase the numbers by 1000 for GB.
How much faster is RAM than SSD?

Should the pagefile be placed on SSDs? Yes. Most pagefile operations are small random reads or larger sequential writes, both of which are types of operations that SSDs handle well.
In general, Windows XP uses the free space of C drive to act as the virtual memory by default. Thus, the larger free space the C drive has, the faster the system runs. Virtual memory will change dynamically as you use the C drive.
You can calculate your paging file size using the following system. For example, a system with 4GB RAM would have a minimum of 1024x4x1. 5=6,144MB [1GB RAM x Installed RAM x Minimum]. Whereas the maximum is 1024x4x3=12,288MB [1GB RAM x Installed RAM x Maximum].
explanation: YES you can, but even best ssd is ~4 Gb/s and ram is ~30 Gb/s. It will help if you have apps that need 8+GB of ram, at least they will boot, but they will get A LOT SLOWER than running in ram.
Can I use an external hard drive as VRAM?
Windows uses virtual memory to store data for programs that are open but not in use. To boost the amount of virtual memory in your computer, connect an external hard drive to your computer and set Windows to use it as virtual memory.
Let's say you have an Android device with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. With the Virtual RAM feature, a part of the 64GB storage, consider 2GB for instance, will be specifically allocated to be used as RAM. Now the total effective RAM on your device will be 6GB (4GB + 2GB) with a storage space of 62GB.
Select System managed size, and your PC will allocate virtual memory on the external hard drive. To allocate a customized virtual memory volume, select Custom and enter the minimum and maximum amount of your memory and choose Set. Click on OK and then restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
